Being a good guy, if you behave in such a manner, how others will behave? ... That is not an acceptable behaviour from a person like you .... We thought you to be good but ...
All of us are aware of these kinds of comments from others. We make such opinions of a person when we stereotype him as very good.
A good person can be a role model for others, but for the person, maintaining the good image can be very difficult, can cost him a lot.
A person, labelled as a very good person, can suffer from many things, such as:
Very high expectations: People's expectations from a good person is normally very high and they expect it to be maintained every time. So, if a student is seen as a disciplined student, everyone expects him to be disciplined every time. Sometimes it can be difficult to live upto other's expectations.
Gets "rewarded" with more work: this applies specially to working people. If a person is efficient worker, his boss assigns all important and tough works to him. Works that cannot be done by others, are often passed on to him.
This happened to me in the first company that I worked in. I used to complete all my works on time. Also, I often used to stay late in the office as I was a bachelor then and had nothing to do in home, I used to browse the net. This somehow projected a dependable and late-night worker image, of mine, on my boss's mind. Gradually he started assigning extra work in the evening. When everyone started leaving for home, he used to assign important work to me, to be completed by morning. This created issues in my life.
Can be frustrating: a person, who has consistently done good, but performs something bad, are often criticized by people. All his good deeds are overlooked and only his bad deed gets importance. Many times, he gets compared to the worst person. This may cause frustration to the person.
We are always concerned about not making a bad impression and try hard to avoid making it. But a very good impression can also pose problems for us.
